Swan near Electric Forest

This artwork explores the ripples and reflections on the water as the mother swan takes her chicks on a trip. The idea of the specific forest depiction stems from my earlier work, where it is imagined as a living entity with almost electric quality and life. However dynamic the ripples and forest are, the aim is to portray a very calm scene.

No Belly Rubs!

This artwork shows a little kitten who wants to play with a toy that is reflected in its eyes. While lying excitedly on the floor with its belly exposed, the kitten will not allow any belly rubs and is prepared to fight.

Fox Play Time

This artwork explores depicts a playful scene between two baby foxes in a meadow during spring time. The two brothers have a completely different personalities, one always playful, the other ready to nap and about to be surprised by his fellow. The scene is reminiscent of the days when we did not worry about anything and just enjoyed the days.

Dandelion Fields

This scene shows a carefree husky enjoying the dandelion fields on a warm summer day. This image brings nostalgia, remembering of good times in the midst of a hectic life.

Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis explores a folklore story from Zimbabwe. The story describes a metal beast that will emerge from the ground. In my artwork, the main focus is to express a calmness that drives people in, leaving the chaotic everyday world behind. The dynamic element is therefore lessened through the choice of perspective.

Great Horned Owl

This painting shows a study of a great horned owl. I was experimenting with the painting style I wanted to achieve using rough brushstrokes to depict the individual feathers. 

Silence of the Ocean

This scene depicts the depths of the ocean with its wonders. This is accentuated by the two almost surreal looking jellyfish that roam within the underwater caves, illuminating them as they swim by. 

Meditation

Exploring water reflections and in this instance also figurative form of reflection on ones life, the frog sits on a leaf as it contemplates. You can almost hear the rain falling. Regardless of the surrounding conditions, the frog sits still in the rain as a drop of water is about to fall on its head, unfazed and ready to face the world in its entirety.

My Food is Too Fresh

This painting is a modern twist on baroque still life paintings that depict lavish dining sets with various fruits and meat. In this painting, the crab is still alive, the lemon slice sits provocatively beside it hinting at the near future. In contrast to the still life paintings, it is very simple, almost plain in comparison. 

Freedom of a Dragonfly

The main focus of this artwork was the depiction of the wings as stained glass artwork. The idea came from the observation of how the light hits the wings and actually makes it seem like stained glass with different colours bouncing off its wings, a reflection of thousand colours off the sun. 

Kingfisher’s Flight

Similarly to the Swan, the Kingfisher’s Flight is set on a lake showing the victorious moment of the Kingfisher catching its prey. The mountain behind it forms a crown at the precise moment then the Kingfisher has made its catch while the water surface still ripples from the dive. 

Thousand Eyes to See

This scene portrays a rare white and blue peacock resting his head against its feathers. The eyes represent the society watching all its moves reminding us that all our choices, behaviours and actions are being seen and judged.

The Investigators

This scene shows three baby aligators thoroughly investigating the lake they are about to enter for the very first time. Their reflection is distorted as they ripple the water to enter their new world.

The Ancient Abyss

The abyss shows a very specific place in my mind. Its a place to contemplate in ones own silence and solitude. The blue light at the horizon symbolizes a life force.

Entering Heaven

This artwork explores the idea of Heaven. The scene shows an entrance with a path leading through a forest into the city of light. The forest is portrayed as a living entity glowing from within with a purple light.

Your Eyes

This artwork shows a poetic depictions of ones eyes as if they were a night sky full of stars in the middle of the forest looking upward.
